Our Relationship With Schools
The University of Western Australia enjoys excellent relationships with a number of secondary schools in Western Australia, helping to ensure that for the State's university-bound students, the transition between high school and university is as successful as possible. In recent years too, we have been delighted to establish more specific Learning Links programmes with particular schools. Staff at those schools and at UWA are forging close professional ties to the benefit of students as well as each other. These schools include Belmont City College, Perth Modern School, and Shenton College. Such school relationships are based firmly on a philosophy of the school and the University learning from one another; of developing activities which are of mutual benefit; and collaboration to encourage students to enjoy a taste of the intellectual, social and cultural experiences that UWA has to offer, early in their education. Over a number of years with our earliest Learning Links partner, Shenton College, and now with more recent partners Belmont City College and Perth Modern School, we have seen the success of the programme in challenging students, involving school and university staff, and encouraging young people to give serious consideration to higher education as a future pathway. UWA is strongly committed to engagement with the community and with secondary schools throughout Western Australia. Learning Links is one important contribution to our priority of widening access to students from diverse backgrounds, and contributing to excellent education for our State's students. This website provides information about the extent of the programme and activities within it, the contributions made by UWA Schools and Faculties, and links to participating schools. In very large measure, the success of this initiative has relied on the goodwill of all concerned: I hope that this information might encourage you to consider ways of becoming involved in Learning Links, or supporting some of the existing activities within this exciting programme.
